We are proud to announce that the Town of Maine's "Codification" project is now complete. This was a 4 year project between our service and software provider General Code and the town. As part of the contract with General Code, the town has received hardcopy code books along with an "E-Code" online version.

What is codification? To "codify" means to arrange and systematize. Codification is the collection and organization of our ordinances of a general and permanent nature into a numbered and stylized document that is easy-to-read and easy-to-access. Codifying also included reviewing and revising of our ordinances to correct conflicts and inconsistencies. This was a collaborative effort by our town council, town clerk, ZBA and planning boards, code enforcement department along with our legal counsel.

Our completed Code will be a useful resource for everyone in your community. It contains our laws and ordinances, modernized in accordance with statute as well as with actual conditions and practices of our town. It is published in an easy-to-use, expandable format designed to accommodate future legislation.

With our E-Code link, information from the town's Code is accessible 24 hours a day. Our citizens can find the information they need any time they want it, without calling the town hall. Companies researching site locations in our area can find the Zoning and Land Use legislation they need, again, without calling our office. With E-Code, our local government officials and employees can spend less time fulfilling requests for information because constituents and other interested parties have convenient access to the Code right at their own fingertips. You can find our "E-Code" on our town website at, click on "Laws" then "Town of Maine Code Book" where you will find the link. This online version has a user friendly interface and had extensive search capability.
